Valparaiso Street is located in Viña del Mar downtown area, in this place its commerce is concentrated (important: this street is located in Viña del Mar, although it has the same name than its neighbor city). This is where it’s possible to see ambulant vendors selling all kind of small objects or “cachureos” in the sidewalk (some of these objects are alarm clocks, socks, illegally copied music cds, shirts, pants and other) but also a huge variety of commerce stores that sell what the population need in their everyday life.
This big mix of bakeries, shoe stores, bookstores, clothing stores, appliances, soda fountains, fruit and vegetable carts and small cafes make this street one sector for those looking to get to know a normal shopping day of the people of this coastal town. It is very easy to walk through and one can spend some time in the stores. As always, be careful with valuables and make sure they won’t be too visible.
If you get lost, every Viña del Mar inhabitant knows where Calle Valparaiso is located, so go ahead and ask them.
